Velebit … If you are from Croatia, any further word is redundant. If you are not, you will learn very soon. Velebit is the largest Croatian mountain with an area of 2270 km2, with a length of over 145 km, with a width of 10 to 30 km and nine peaks over 1600 m above the sea level, which in itself generates admiration and awe. Velebit is the main barrier between the mountain climate of the Lika plain and the Mediterranean Adriatic climate and therefore has its two faces. The Primorje slope is one of karst, bare and crisp, all in yellowish colors, often recalling the Moon’s surface, while the Lika slope is more gentle and tame, almost covered with forest, in dark green color. The entire Velebit is protected as a Nature Park with two national parks: Paklenica National Park and Northern Velebit National Park.
But enough of the sheer facts about Velebit. It’s about time to tell you what you’re going to experience on this tour. Kilometers and miles of pure driving pleasure! Specifically, through almost 600 km of roads, you will thoroughly explore the Velebit mountain, from north to south, from Lika to the Adriatic, from top to bottom. You will be driving through the best European road that runs along the most beautiful seaside in the world, the historic roads that people have been building through the rugged mountains, forest and mountain gravel roads and open Lika stages. From the green, woody Lika, across the bare rocks to the Adriatic Sea. In this 600 km and 1600 m of altitude difference, you will experience almost 3 different climate zones, breathe the freshest and cleanest air in Lika, soak up the Mediterranean sunshine, caress the Adriatic Sea, and get beaten by the winds of Velebit. So so many times!
When we add 150 kilometers of an opening, which takes you to get from Zagreb to Velebit, and the fact that you will certainly want to thoroughly soak in every part of this tour, with a very simple calculation we will get to a multi-day Velebit roller coaster that you will not forget so quickly and which you will surely want to re-enter. For this adventure, you should take at least three days, and our recommendation is to take at least one extra day for the pure enjoyment of Velebit, Lika, sea, food, drink … You name it!
